NRA-backed task force pushes to arm teachers, school staff

The National Rifle Association has backed a task force that is putting together ideas which will put more guns in schools instead of keeping as many of them away as they can. This idea is coming weeks before the government is looking at placing a ban on some weapons and high capacity ammo magazines for those weapons. When they say putting more weapons in the schools they will be arming the very teachers that teach the children.

I think that putting weapons in the hands of school teachers is a very bad idea. Even though there will be 40-60 hours of training in order to carry a weapon in the school, it is not near enough. I believe a better solution to the problem would be to put more armed police officers in the schools. In most of the schools there are one or two school resource officers to patrol the school. They usually have a single sidearm and a Kevlar bullet proof vest. In order to ensure more safety, schools could place more, higher trained officers with more equipment in the school system. They could carry AR-15s and 12 gauge shotguns. This would be much more effective I think.
