A town called Nelson in the state of Georgia is now saying it wants its members to own guns and ammo. The small town has a population of around 1300 people and the leaders say it is like putting a security sign in the front yard to deter criminals. This law says that the head of each household should own a gun and ammo for protection and to provide for the emergency management for the city and to provide for and protect the safety, security, and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants. It makes exemptions for felons and the mentally ill and also allows anyone to opt out.
I think this is the best idea in the country right now and more towns should opt for this. If criminals knew that everyone they would come across in their homes will have a gun on hand for the sole reason of protection, they might not want to mess with them and it may deter them from committing a crime. I have many guns in my home, some of which I hunt with but most I will use for protection if I have to. I think everyone should know how to shoot and shoot well.
