Recently in the state of Texas, Senator Jane Nelson, who is the Republican chairwoman of the committee, has pushed forward a bill that would make welfare applicants have to pass a drug screening. It is said that anyone who has been charged for drugs in the past or anyone who looks like they may use drugs will be tested. Anyone who tests positive for drugs will be banned from receiving TANF benefits for 12 months. Texas Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst support the bill 100 percent.
I think this is a very good idea not only for the state of Texas but all of the United States of America. Some of the people who receive welfare will use the money they receive from the government to support their bad habits. It makes me sick to think that someone is taking the money I am giving them so they can get through a low point in their life, and they are using it to get high and have a good time. This in turn is making their lives worse and is not doing anything for society except costing them money they could save and use their self.
