How safe is Hot Air Ballooning?

Hot air balloons have been used for many years as tourist attractions and personal recreation. On February 26, 2013, there was a hot air balloon that crashed near Luxor, Egypt which has people wondering how safe they really are.

I believe they are a fun way of seeing the landscape and while you are up in them; you actually have time to enjoy what you are seeing, unlike in a plane or helicopter. Planes are too fast and pass everything by and helicopters are very noisy and most of the time they are cramped.

I do believe they are not as safe as many people tend to assume because I would think if you mix propane, fire, and a balloon; it could have a bad outcome. Well, it looks like I was finally right with this one instance. But for the most part, history shows they are relatively safe. They were invented in the 1700’s and have been used since then by the military and various people around the globe. Therefore, I can’t believe there haven’t been more accidents involving hot air balloons. This is not the first accident involving hot air balloons and it defiantly won’t be the last.
